The EBI Vision

Volume 11, Issue 1, March 2006

The Ministry of EBI

Dominican Republic

Ninety-six packets of Sunday school materials for adults, junior high, and junior students were sent in January. Each packet included a teacher’s manual and five student lessons for each level. These packets are being distributed to the independent Baptist churches in the Dominican Republic. This is the first shipment in our effort to put Sunday school material into all of the independent Baptist churches in Latin America.

Nicaragua

Twenty-three Ministry Enrichment Libraries were distributed to needy pastors by BIMI missionary Bob Dayton, who is also an EBI Board member.

Argentina

EBI has cooperated with missionary, Brian George, to provide Sunday school material for 200 very poor children. Brian is providing $66 per quarter for four quarters of materials, and EBI is subsidizing the remaining $956. This material was shipped in September.

Peru

We are blessed to have two distributors in the country of Peru. Gary and Penny Whipple are selling EBI materials from their home and at pastors’ conferences in the Lima area.

Don Bond, from his home here in Florida, is sponsoring distribution of our books through a Peruvian man working in southern Peru.

Mexcio

Rick Shields, a missionary to tribal people in Mexico, is supplying junior Sunday school material (each of our eight completed quarters) for 5 teachers and 100 boys and girls.

A husband and wife evangelistic team has purchased 21 sets of these same materials to distribute among the poor.

Los Angeles, USA

Gary and Bernie Hilliker are making plans to attend a Spanish pastors’conference in the Los Angeles area in June. The Montecito Baptist Church sponsors this conference.

Spotlight on Staff

Phil & Dianne Schmitt

We are pleased to welcome Phillip and Dianne Schmitt to our staff in Sebring. Phil and Dianne were accepted by Baptist Mid-Missions in 1992. They served in Slovakia with John and Lydia Gauge from 1995-2000, and helped establish the first independent Baptist church in Slovakia since the Communist take-over. The Schmitts served in the Republic of Ireland from 2000-2005. Phil’s background makes him uniquely qualified to serve at EBI. Prior to entering the ministry he served in the US navy as a technician on a nuclear submarine. Then for nine years he worked for Alabama Power Company at a nuclear generating facility. His training for these positions included classes in maintenance of generators, motors, pumps and other industrial equipment. This experience will be very useful in helping to maintain the equipment in the print shop. Dianne comes to us with a background in teaching. Her ability to quickly understand procedures has been an asset in the shipping department. We believe that God has sent us Phil and Diane in answer to many years of prayer and we are thankful for this addition to our staff.

Words of praise

Three thousand dollars was sent to EBI recently to supply materials for churches in one Latin American country.

A gift sent to the Hillikers was enough to replace Gary’s computer which was no longer able to be repaired.
